Brady-Henderson Mill Creek Elementary School

On November 12, 2007, the Brady-Henderson Mill Creek
Elementary School became a 2007 National No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon
School. To become an NCLB-Blue
Ribbon School is to join an elite group.
Only 5,510 schools have won the award over its quarter century
history. During the 2007-2008
school year, of the more than 133,000 U.S. schools, only 287 schools were
honored. In Pennsylvania, only
13 schools received this esteemed award.
It is quite an honor to be named one of only 287 schools in the
entire country bestowed with this distinguished honor.
This prestigious award is a testament to the commitment of the entire
community and all involved, including students, families, teachers, support
staff and community partners.
Brady-Henderson Mill Creek Elementary School has
received the Keystone Achievement Award in recognition of meeting Adequately
Yearly Progress (AYP). The
Keystone Achievement Award is given to schools as a public recognition of
the fine work and commitment of educators, students and families.
Four Keystone Achievement Awards are proudly on display in the
entrance of the school signifying this great accomplishment.
Brady-Henderson Mill Creek Elementary School is located near the
intersection of Rt. 22 and Rt. 655, approximately seven miles east of
the borough of Huntingdon, in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
It is one of four elementary schools in the Huntingdon Area School
District. Brady-Henderson Mill
Creek is a K-5 school, which presently serves 119 students.
The school has an all day kindergarten program, and one or two
classes at each of the other grade levels. Additionally, Huntingdon County
Adult and Child Development Corporation (Head Start) in partnership with the
Huntingdon Area School Districts operates a Pre K Counts Preschool classroom
in the school.
Students receive specialized instruction in art, music, band, library,
physical education, drug awareness, and health.
Support programs and services include:
Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy, Title I Reading and
Mathematics, Learning Support, Life Skills, and after school and summer
extended learning opportunities. In
addition, small group, class and individual counseling sessions are provided
by our Guidance Counselor. We
have an active parent-teacher organization that facilitates student and
family events throughout the school year.
These events include field trips, family-fun nights, BIG-AIR monthly
reading celebrations, Fall Family Festival, school-wide celebrations and
many more activities that support our students, families and staff. Parental
involvement is encouraged throughout the school year.
Through our
yearly curriculum review process, data-analysis sessions, annual goal
setting meetings and our ongoing staff development focusing on literacy, we
continue to move in a direction that centers around the success of each
child.
During the 2007-2008 school year, the Response to Intervention model was
implemented to provide additional support to children.
The model includes a team approach to provide appropriate
scientifically-based intervention combined with ongoing progress monitoring
to ensure academic success.
